Using AI to manage the human side of projects

On 1 April Kelvin McGrath from Meeting Quality delivered a talk on how we can use data to understand the human side of projects and how this can provide lead indicators on project performance. The video can be found here. A huge thanks to Kelvin and the record attendance of 130 people. 

I was fascinated at the insights that could be derived from the data. Particularly, challenges such as:

  • The divergence between the views of the steering group and the project team, which implies a level of disconnection and dysfunction. 
  • The fact that a project team is being burn’t out and effectively ‘give in’; they become compliant and accept their fate.
  • That high levels of anger indicate an over-riding level of frustration and people begin to work again you. The project manager has lost their team. 

It is hugely impressive what can be derived from a 45 second questionnaire on an app. I would commend it to you. 

Kelvin is ahead of his time and his methods will definitely be a feature of a future project environment. But people are still sceptical on what insights can be derived from data, despite the compelling evidence that he has presented. But this will change, with early adopters making a big difference on team performance.
